We’ve been waiting, patiently, to announce our Saturday night keynote speaker, and here we are.
Hippocampus Magazine is pleased to welcome best-selling memoirist Mary Karr to HippoCamp 2016: A Conference for Creative Nonfiction Writers. She’ll deliver a reading and talk based on her latest book, The Art of Memoir, Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016, as part of the conference programming.
Mary Karr, Ph.D. is an award-winning poet and New York Times best-selling memoirist. She is the author of the critically-acclaimed, best-selling memoirs The Liars’ Club, Cherry, and Lit. Her latest book, The Art of Memoir, is a master class on the fastest-growing literary genre. A television series based on The Liars’ Club and Lit is in development with Showtime starring Mary Louise Parker as Karr and produced by Sarah Timberman (Masters of Sex, Justified, and Elementary). In 2015 Syracuse University awarded her an honorary doctorate in humane letters.
A born raconteur, Karr brings to her lectures and talks the same wit, irreverence, joy, and sorrow found in her poetry and prose. In Karr’s “The Art of Memoir” talks she brings a wealth of knowledge that comes from teaching literature and writing for nearly three decades and writing three critically acclaimed memoirs that are routinely named as the best in the genre.
