Terry Heyman is a writer, comedienne, and three-time West Chester Story Slam champion. Terry is joining us for a special pre-conference workshop, Storytelling for Creative Nonfiction Writers. She spoke to us about why she’s looking forward to HippoCamp 2016 this August.
Hippocampus: We don’t want to give too much away about your workshop, but please share what you hope attendees will take away from your talk that isn’t found on the program description.
Terry: People don’t remember speeches, they remember stories. Stories are the most effective way of telling the world who you are.
Who would benefit most from your session and why?
Anyone who has to hold an audience’s attention could benefit, whether at a book signing or giving a speech. We discuss how to take a moment from your life and craft it into a memorable story that can be used to sell your book, your message or yourself.
What is your best advice for those attending a writing conference?
There’s a ton of great sessions so have snacks and water on hand to keep your energy up! Also, updated business cards is probably a good idea as well.
Aside from speaking, what you are most looking forward to about being part of the HippoCamp?
Getting inspired from talking with other writers.
What’s on your personal conference agenda?
There are so many writers I’m looking forward to hearing: Lisa Jakub, Allison Williams, Georgia Knapp Amy Fish, Christoph Paul, Andrew Reiner and of course Mary Karr. The line up is fantastic!
We don’t want you to miss our “fantastic” lineup of presenters so register for HippoCamp 2016 today!
